Cloning Keys

Cloning transponder keys

There can be a lot of confusion concerning which is the right key to use and what is the purpose of all the different after market  transponder keys. Let us see what it all means.

It's all in the part number and type of transponder Chip. Cloning transponder keys have a chip in them that are made to be have the transponder ID read and also written too. Cloning transponder keys require a machine like the ILCO "RW4" or the JET "EDT-1" to read the chip value, which is usually 32 digits long. The cloning machines read the value of the original chip key and then can write that value onto a after market cloning chip key.

Here's one of the problems with cloning transponder keys. They all come with a "Zero" value. Meaning the 32 digit value is all zero's. During programming of a new key into the car's memory the car's immobilizer computer is looking for a unique value to the chip and will not accept a zero value of all zeros. The car's immobilizer computer See's this as an error and in turn causes a fault to be registered in the PCM (Power train Control Module) computer. To avoid doing this pay close attention to the part numbers that ILCO and JET use. Strattec "RW" keys are cloning keys.

EXAMPLE:

ILCO Key: Clone Type B99-PT5, HD106-PT5
The "PT" means Plastic (Bow) Transponder
The "5" means this is a Zero value.

JET Key: Clone Type GM99-N-PHT, HD106-N-PHT
The "N" means neutral value, which is the same as Zero value.
The "PHT" means Plastic Head Transponder.

STRATTEC Key: Clone Type "RW" means Read Write

In an on board procedure when it is necessary to have two programmed keys to be able to originate a new master key or simply add a duplicate key you cannot use a key and its clone because what you did was copy the value of one already register key into a clonable key therefore they count as one.
